Year 2

What we will be learning about and doing this week?

We will be with the book 'The Magic Paintbrush' by Julia Donaldson this week.  The children will be retelling the story through role play and will also get the opportunity to plan and write their own Magic _________ story.

In Maths we will be looking more into place value and using the more than and less than signs to represent numbers. We will also be looking at writing numbers in words.

 Homework

In your Homework books this week you have a maths sheet with Base 10 blocks. You need to work out what number is being shown with the blocks and also partition that number into tens and units. Have a go at the challenge by partitioning the number in a different way, the first one has been done as an example.

Spellings

The spellings below will be tested on Thursday 21st September

Spelling books need to be signed and returned on or before Wednesday.

Reasons to Celebrate:

The children thoroughly enjoyed working as a team to create a variety of 2D shapes with their bodies.

Notices:

Trip Year 2 were planning on a trip to Windsor Castle but due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to change this. We are currently looking for an alternative and we will notify you as soon as we can.

Flu vaccination letter

Please check your child's book bag when they come home today has they will have a flu vaccination letter for you to read and fill out.  Once you have completed the form please send it back to school asap.

Squirrels class - There was a letter that fell out of a book bag so if you are missing a letter this may be yours.

Design & Technology

We will be building and designing our own castles later on this term and will be needing many paper towel inners in order to make our amazing designs.  If you could please start collecting them at home and sending them to school that would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Uniform/PE Kits

Please can you make sure that all your child's belongs such as uniform, jumper, water bottle to PE Kit are labelled before school starts as this will help us find the owners quickly if anything gets lost throughout the school day. Thank you

Snacks:

If you wish to provide your child with a snack, please ensure that it is fruit or vegetable based as we are a healthy school and would like to promote this.

General:

Children are to be collected from the MUGA at 3.20pm.

If it is raining the children should be collected from the main playground entrance.

We encourage the children to bring in items related to our topic for show and tell every Friday for both classes. This is not on a rota basis and children are welcome to bring something each week.

Water bottles:

These must be brought into school daily for we believe it to be a great support to growing minds! There are now a lot of children who tend to forget their bottles and unfortunately we do not have the time in class or adult support to continually fill up jugs.

PE Kit:

Children will need their full PE kits on a Wednesday & Thursday for Squirrels and a Tuesday & Thursday for Badgers. If children do not have the correct kit they will be unable to take part in the activities.

If children cannot participate during a PE lesson, please can you kindly send an email or note notifying your class teacher.  Thank you.

Reading Books:

The children will now move over to the school's Accelerated Reader programme. This works slightly differently to the Oxford Reading Tree and so all children will need to be reassessed based on this scheme.

Tissues:

We would be very grateful for any donations of tissues for runny noses. Many thanks.
