Giving Together - Being Charitable

Lent is the period of forty days which comes before Easter in the Christian calendar, traditionally a time of fasting and reflection, a time of prayer and penance. At Holy Trinity during this time we thank God for all the gifts he has given us and launch our annual Lent Appeal. Each year we nominate a charity, local, national or global, that has a close connection to our community and participate in a wide range of fundraising activities to support that charity.
At Holy Trinity we are often thinking about how we can help others and coming up with lots of ideas. During our Lent Appeals each class chooses their own sponsored event, we have pyjama runs, read-a-thons and obstacle courses to name but a few. We have class coin trails, cake sales and the staff put on weekly Lent Lunches which are always a big hit!
Lent Appeal 2016 - Molly's Smile
Our nominated charity was Molly’s Smile Fund. Molly Burdett was a former pupil of Holy Trinity who tragically lost her life in 2015 after a very short illness. She was only 20. The Burdett family were a big part of the school community for many years and are still very much part of the local community. They set up a charity - Molly's Smile - to raise money for St George's Hospital where Molly was treated and Histo UK (Haemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis) the disease itself. Many of our pupils were born or have been treated at St George's and so we chose to support this local charity in memory of a much loved pupil.
 We raised a staggering £7500!
Lent Appeal 2017 - The Royal Marsden Hospital

Last year our nominated charity was The Royal Marsden Hospital. One of our much loved Reception pupils was treated there and our incredible Mrs Turner is currently undergoing treatment there. Both families cannot praise the staff, care and resources there enough and knowing how they rely on charitable donations to continue their great work, we wanted to raise as much money as possible.

 We raised a phenomenal £7024!

Lent Appeal 2015 - Theodora Children's Charity
In 2015 our chosen charity was ‘Theodora Children’s Charity’, a less well-known charity that carries out the most vital work—making seriously ill children smile. The charity employs ‘Giggle Doctors’ who work in many hospitals including the Royal marsden, Great Ormond Street, the Evelina Children’s Hopsital and Chelsea and Westminster, and their role is to make the days more enjoyable and bearable for patients and their families.

Theodora was nominated by a family in our school community whose child was  undergoing treatment at the Royal Marsden and they told us that the Giggle Doctors were one of the few things that could put a smile on their child’s face.

We raised an incredible £6020!
