Mathematics

At Holy Trinity we fully embrace the concept of 'maths mastery', all children mastering the mathematics curriculum, and we have adopted the CPA approach to learning Mathematics. This core practice is used in Singapore, who rank in the top three internationally in Education.

THE CPA APPROACH:

CPA stands for Concrete - Pictorial - Abstract. The Singapore method begins by allowing children to start learning about Maths by playing with real objects indoors and outdoors.. They build confidence with the basic ideas of counting, adding and taking away through their play and real life contexts. There is then a second stage of drawing pictures representing the objects,. And only later do they gradually start to add numbers to their drawings. This approach begins in Early Years and all three elements remain important for mathematical understanding right up to Year 6.

Our curriculum incorporates three main elements:

1) Fluency

2) Problem Solving

3) Reasoning

Learning Walls

Below you will find the Learning Walls for each year group, these show all the learning objectives taught within that year's curriculum and we use these to assess the children's progress and attainment.
