Holy Trinity C of E Primary School

Music

Intent:

At Holy Trinity we want every child to flourish and be able to develop their God-give talents, skills and gifts. Holy Trinity's Music scheme of work aims to inspire our children and develop their confidence to experiment and create their own music as an important part of their entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. It is designed to empower all of our young learners, including those with SEND, to develop their ability, nurture their talent, express their individual interests, ideas and thoughts about the world, as well as learning about the rich heritage and culture of great musicians in the British Isles and beyond.

At Holy Trinity, music skills are taught, learned, embedded and built upon in each unit the children study and these skills are revisited and developed as they progress through primary school and beyond.

We support our children to reach the National Curriculum end of key stage attainment targets, whilst knowing how music both reflects and shapes our history and contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Implementation:
Music is taught by a gifted and highly experienced music teacher on a weekly basis, following the music curriculum map, and progression skills. Within music lessons, children are exposed to a wide variety of musical instruments, genres and styles.

In addition to music lessons, children are given opportunities to perform at the annual music festival, in plays, carol services and external events, often organised by the Merton Music Foundation.
Impact:
The impact of the music curriculum is teacher assessed according to the objectives set out in the National Curriculum.

The achievement of the children is celebrated throughout the year with musical performances. Children learning instruments either in school, or outside of school, are encouraged to celebrate their successes through the annual music festival, and in weekly Celebration Worship.
